Safer is the bailiwick of guernsey’s domestic abuse charity supporting all victims of domestic abuse whether they be adults, children, women or men & regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability. We run the island’s Women’s Refuge and provide the Independent Domestic Violence Adviser service for adults and children. We also provide outreach to the community, counselling services to help victims move forward positively, run The Guernsey and Alderney Children’s Contact Centre, provide training sessions, raise awareness, lobby and advocate on behalf of victims of domestic abuse. We work in a multi-agency environment under the States Domestic Abuse Strategy umbrella with the States and other charities. Since the the Independent Domestic Violence Adviser service started, our IDVA’s received 570 referrals for high risk individuals. In 2015 there were 601 reports to the police of domestic abuse in Guernsey. Safer has been at the forefront of providing assistance to these vulnerable members of our community.
