What does Victim Support Guernsey Do? If you’ve been affected by any crime, we’re here to help you. You may be a victim yourself, a witness to crime, or looking for help for a friend or relative who has been a victim. It doesn’t matter when the crime happened or whether it has been reported to the police. Following a crime, it’s natural to experience many emotions such as anxiety, confusion and anger. You may feel tearful and completely overwhelmed, and unclear about what you should do next. If you’ve not yet reported the crime and feel it is the right course of action for you, we can help you to do this. We can help you to understand how the criminal justice system works. We can put you in touch with a Crime Prevention officer, housing or any other agency that may be appropriate in your case. We give you support to help you make decisions that are right for you. We can help reduce the stress of coping with an incident and provide you with information on what can appear to be a confusing process. What is the Witness Service? If you are asked to be a witness in a trial or hearing in court, you play a vital part in delivering justice. Attending court can be extremely daunting and sometimes frightening, particularly for young or vulnerable witnesses. The Witness service offers support to prosecution and defence witnesses, and their family and friends, before, during and after a criminal trial. The Witness Service can provide you with a trained volunteer to support your during proceedings. We can show you around the court building prior to the court date and volunteers can wait with you on the day and support you in court.
